Aloha! My name is Sheila. I grew up in Southern California which is where I first discovered yoga. I found this practice while in college at UCSB – seeking a mental and physical outlet from the stress of school. My yoga practice became more of a lifestyle when I moved to Hawaii in 2006 and started practicing Ashtanga Yoga regularly with Bhavani Maki at Yoga Hanalei. Many classes, teachers, and workshops later I completed a 200hr teacher teaching with Yandara Yoga. Over the years I have taken many yoga trainings and self studies including the Yoga Philosophy course with Dave Druz here on the North Shore.
When not on the mat you will often find me in the ocean or the mountains where I feel most at peace and connected to my environment. I am an avid water-woman, artist, and aspiring musician. I also have a BA in Global Studies from UCSB as well as a Masters of Education in Teaching from UH Manoa. I work in various elementary schools on the island and am passionate about connecting kids to nature and helping them discover their true selves.
As a teacher, I enjoy the process of building each class – integrating philosophy and multiple aspects of the practice tactfully into our shared time on the mat. My teaching style brings balance, grace, power and always new music in a lighthearted flow. My hope as a yoga teacher is to help others find a path to peace, harmony, and their own self awareness through this ancient practice taught with a modern perspective.
